LADDER

Today was a short day, we started work at 9 A.M.  and set out in our PJ's to find logs that would be thick enough for our ladder. We looked in the area above the foot ball field where we had previously made a brush pile with our wildlife science class earlier in the year. We found two logs with similar thickness and height then brought them back down to the treehouse to see how they would work. They worked fantastic and from there we went back up to find some logs of a smaller thickness for the foot steps. We found two that looked great, about two inches in diameter. We brought the log down and measured out ten pieces about three feet long that would become the foot steps. Next, we asked maintenance for some 4 inch screws and they gave us a box of specialty wood screws that worked perfectly. They also suggested that Danny and I cut notches in the logs to help support the foot steps. We cut ten notches on each log and i stabbed my self a few times from the darn hand saw slipping, cutting sideways isn't always a good idea. Anyway after the notches were finished we pre-drilled then drilled each step in, leaned it up against the entrance and it was perfectly finished. The log look makes it look really nice and rustic, and the foot steps are spaced close together which makes it really easy for little kids!
