Today was another awesome day, it proved that we are indeed sailing smoothly in terms of our time frame and how much we are getting done per day. We started the day by finishing the drilling of each hole in both frame boards. Next, Danny and I fastened each bolt tight using a washer, lock washer and nut to complete the process, making sure the two boards bolted together would stay safe and connected. After tightening each and every bolt, we decided to continue hardening (clearing and removing limbs or branches) the area so that it is a decent environment for the tree house when we eventually set the frame up to it's 6 foot height. Danny and I, using a simple handsaw removed all of the hazardous limbs from the adjacent white pine. Dave Pilla taught us to start sawing from the bottom first and then continue from the top so that when the limb is disconnected from the tree it doesn't pull the bark down and start to peel where the limb was removed. After this, Danny and I had a conversation with Brad about the two jointed 2 by 6 beams that make up our frame. He expressed concern about the amount of stress each end of each beam would have resting on one bolt and only one 2 by 6 diameter of wood. We discussed the problem and came up with a solution, by cutting extra 2 by 6 pieces for each exposed end of the frame we would double up the stress points that are attached to our trees, there for insuring the safety of the tree. We then took action, I sawed the extra pieces while Danny ran over to R.P. Johnson's for the hardware we needed. We fastened each bolt to the newly cut pieces of wood, insuring the lifespan of our frame. Next Danny and I discussed more design plans with Brad and realized that not only would we need a bracket to hold in place the frame end attached to the tree, but we would also need a bracket for the end attached to the metal ski lift pole. This is needed because the amount of stress being put on one bolt attaching the frame to the ski pole would be too much for just one bolt to handle, so we decided to fabricate brackets for both the tree and the metal pole. As Brad worked with Everett on designing and making the metal brackets, Danny and I searched for floor framing beams, we found 5 that were all roughly 12 feet long and 6 inches in diameter. They are perfect floor framing beams, and are shaped completely square so it will be very simple to lay our floor boards across evenly. We even found the beginning 3 pieces of our floorboards. Lastly, Danny and I discussed siding plans with brad and what would be the best method for both our tree house and for Lizzie's project of painting a mural on the inside of our tree house. We decided that we will probably use the wood paneling that both Dave and Brad have, but we still have to discuss what would be the easiest material for Lizzie to paint so our plans could change. With the brackets made, thanks to Everett and Brad and our framing finished it looks like we are well on our way to our fantastic  tree house!
