Weekly Review 2

This week we seemed to make the most visual progress on our treehouse. After laying the floorboards down and finally figuring out the complicated mess of how to lay them out, we began to make real progress.We learned that laying them out in a fan shape was to complicated and intricate, so we took the more logical answer and decided to cut off the over hanging ends. As we waited for a few days for the stainless steal screws we began to add the final touches on the inside of the frame. Then after the floor boards were nailed down we started fabricating the frame for the walls. We learned that when drilling the two by fours into the frame we should alternate sides so not to drill into the same grain and to pre-drill the holes in two by fours because otherwise the wood will split. We put up 4 two by fours all around each edge guaranteeing the safety of the walls. We learned that if all sides being equal in our triangle that we could cut off the overhanging sides on each end and flip them to the missing triangular gaps in the bottom two corners, unfortunately only one side worked well so we had to cut extra floorboard to fit in the opposite corner. One thing I learned to appreciate is real manual labor in all kinds of weather and bugs. Now I feel the pain of someone who's profession is hard labor like construction, they work in all conditions, rain or shine, bugs or no bugs. Personally, I am really looking forward to this next, we are really going to focus on the roof and aesthetics of the entire tree fort, by the end of the week we will have one fabulous tree fort complete with Lizzies beautiful painted walls.
