Road Block Knocked Down

Today we began work at 9:00 am, a little hesitant to start because of the flies and the math equations we had to deal with yesterday, but using the new found plan that I sketched out last night, we began working. We started this morning by laying the boards out in a square fashion rather than the fan shape we were originally planning on making. We then marked where to cut the boards. We had Josh come and help us utilize the power tools correctly so we could start cutting the floor boards. We were able to cut all the boards and put them in place so we can start off tomorrow by nailing them down. We discovered that even though  lining the boards up in a square fashion and just cutting down each edge, the gap between all the cross beams would cause the floor boards to crack because each floor board will fall in between the gaps between each cross beam. We used the excess scraps of each cross beam and filled each gap so that every floorboard would have support. After cutting and filling each gap I went on a witch hunt trying to find screws long enough to go through the 5 inches of board. I asked maintenance, metal shop, and the builders on campus but had no success. We also found out that each board filling the gap was slightly taller than the cross beams, so now Josh is going to help us by cutting down a half inch on each board making it a stable even surface all around the frame.
