Vertical Progress
Today we made fantastic progress but probably in the worst conditions yet. The blackflys were horrendous today, not only were they utterly annoying but also they were extremely aggressive biting me from head to toe. We started the day around 10 lathering ourselves in bug-spray and began sawing the overlying edges of the floorboards. Danny began measuring out each two by four frame boards for the walls and making marks at 42 inches, while I sawed the overhanging floorboards. I needed to make them flush as possible with the bottom beam so that when bolting the framing to the beam there is nothing crooked. Next, after making sure all of the sides were flat and flush we began drilling the framing two by fours in. We started by lining up the drawn line with the bottom of the floor and holding it in place while Danny drilled. At first we didn't pre-drill the holes in each two by four but after they started to show signs of pressure cracks we began pre drilling with a special wood drill bit. We spent a solid hour and a half trying to swat bugs while drilling each two by four in place, but we finally finished and unfortunately found out that we were one board short, so on monday we are going to have to find an extra two by four that we can cut down to size.
